As I sit here in my Portland apartment, another day of coding and creating behind me, I can't help but reflect on the evolution of my journey as a software developer and indie game creator. It's been a little over a year since my last post, and boy, have things changed. I've grown from a junior developer to a senior one, leading a small team of my own. The transition hasn't been easy, but it's been incredibly rewarding.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is the importance of embracing change. As an introverted perfectionist, change can be unsettling. But as a leader, I've had to learn to adapt quickly to new technologies and trends. I've even started experimenting with emerging tech like blockchain and VR myself. At first, it was daunting, but I've come to realize that trying new things is the only way to stay relevant in this fast-paced industry.

Another area of growth has been in my social skills. As a solo developer, I didn't have to worry about leading a team or dealing with difficult clients. Now, I've learned to communicate better, delegate tasks effectively, and mentor others. It hasn't been easy, but the payoff has been worth it. I've discovered a newfound sense of purpose in helping others grow and succeed.

However, I still struggle with work-life balance. As someone who values their work, it's easy to get caught up in the never-ending cycle of perfecting code and creating games. But I've learned that self-care is crucial for maintaining my sanity and productivity. I've started taking breaks to hike, brew coffee, and listen to indie music. These simple pleasures help me recharge and come back to my work with a fresh perspective.

In conclusion, the past year has been full of ups and downs, but I'm proud of the progress I've made. From learning to lead to embracing change, I've grown in ways I never thought possible. There's still a long road ahead, but I'm excited to see where this journey takes me. Who knows? Maybe one day, I'll look back on this blog and laugh at how far I've come. Until then, it's back to coding and creating!
