Embracing New Horizons: My Next Steps in Fashion
Hey, fashion fam! It's your girl Mandy, checking in from a crisp LA morning. The city's wrapped in a cool 56°F (14°C) embrace, and I'm cozied up with a steaming cup of espresso, letting its warmth seep into my bones.
After my recent adventure with the "Young Talent of Tomorrow" competition, I've been on the lookout for new opportunities to showcase my designs and continue growing as a fashion designer. I stumbled upon the 2025 FGI Dallas Scholarship Competition, which is set to take place on April 18, 2025, in Dallas, TX. This competition offers over $40,000 in scholarship awards across various categories, including Black Tie/Bridal, Cocktail/Party, Daywear/Streetwear, and Apparel Sustainability. It's open to college and university students in fashion design and merchandising studies, and the registration opens on February 10, 2025.
Additionally, I came across the Virginia Jackson Design Competition, which has a deadline of March 26, 2025. This competition focuses on textile design with categories like Dobby, Jacquard, and Print.
These competitions are not just about the accolades; they're about pushing my creative boundaries, gaining exposure, and connecting with fellow designers. The themes and categories resonate with my current design explorations, especially my focus on sustainability and authentic expression.
I'm also considering attending the 2025 Moore College of Art & Design Fashion Show on May 7th at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It's a fantastic opportunity to witness the work of other emerging designers and draw inspiration from their creations.
As I prepare for these opportunities, I'm reminded of the importance of thorough research and attention to detail—lessons I learned from my previous experiences. Each step, whether it's a competition, a showcase, or a networking event, contributes to my growth as a designer.
To all my fellow creatives out there: keep seeking out opportunities that challenge and inspire you. The fashion world is vast, and there's always a new horizon to explore. Let's continue to learn, grow, and create together.
With love and a touch of espresso,
Mandy
