The Space Between Frames: Finding My Rhythm in Stillness and Motion

Sofia

The morning light in Barcelona has that particular September quality—gentle yet revealing, illuminating the city in layers rather than all at once. It's just after 9 AM on Monday, and I'm sitting at my favorite café near Plaça de Catalunya, watching the city transition from weekend calm to weekday purpose.

Yesterday's experiment with presence has followed me into today. After spending a morning without my camera, I found myself reaching for it differently in the afternoon—more intentionally, more selectively. Como si la cámara fuera una extensión de mi conciencia, no solo de mis ojos.

This morning, I watched a businessman hurrying past with his coffee, phone pressed to his ear, completely missing the incredible light painting the cathedral façade behind him. Just yesterday, that might have been me—always in motion, always seeking the next moment rather than inhabiting this one.

It strikes me that I've been approaching my growth the same way—constantly searching for the next evolution, the next understanding, rarely pausing to integrate what I've already learned. The fishermen's project has become my unexpected teacher. Their lives follow the rhythm of tides and seasons—periods of intense activity balanced by necessary stillness.

Quizás el ritmo es más importante que la velocidad.

I've spent years cultivating my eye for composition—knowing exactly what to include in the frame. But I'm only now learning the equally important art of what to leave out. Which moments to capture and which to simply experience. When to move and when to be still.

This morning, I turned down an opportunity to photograph a fashion event next weekend—something I would have automatically accepted before. Not because it wasn't valuable, but because I recognized that my coastal pollution feature needs the space to develop properly, without rushing.

Growth isn't just about expansion but also about curation. About finding the rhythm that allows both movement and stillness their proper place. About learning when to press the shutter and when to simply witness the light changing across the water.

Encontrando mi ritmo entre los fotogramas de la vida—ni siempre en movimiento, ni completamente quieta, sino bailando entre los dos.

Finding my rhythm between life's frames—neither always in motion nor completely still, but dancing between both.

Con los ojos abiertos y el corazón presente,
Sofia
