The Genesis of Sofia: Or, Why I'm Finally Doing This
¡Hola from Barcelona! It's Friday, September 6th, just past 7:40 AM, and the city is slowly stirring outside my window. The air still holds a whisper of summer, but there's a crispness that hints at autumn, a new season, new beginnings. And that’s exactly what this is.
For years, friends have nudged me, "Sofia, you have to start a blog." My camera roll is a chaotic symphony of street scenes, ancient ruins, and faces that tell a thousand stories. My notebooks are crammed with observations, half-formed poems, and the occasional scribbled recipe for a dish I tasted in some forgotten corner of the world. But somehow, the idea of formalizing it, putting it out there, always felt… big. Overwhelming, even.
But here I am. This is it. The genesis.
I’m Sofia, a 28-year-old travel photographer and freelance journalist, and for the past few years, Barcelona has been my anchor, my home base between flights. My life is a constant push-pull between the thrill of the unknown and the comfort of familiarity. I crave the taste of unfamiliar spices, the sound of new languages, the way light falls differently in ancient cities. I live for those moments when a stranger's smile transcends all barriers, and for the quiet satisfaction of capturing a fleeting truth through my lens.
Right now, as I sip my coffee, I'm thinking about patterns. Not just the geometric ones I love to photograph, but the patterns of growth in my own life. I've always been drawn to movement, to the horizon, but I’m also realizing the profound importance of understanding what I see, not just observing it. It’s about diving deeper, beyond the postcard perfect, to the human stories beneath. It’s about learning how to tell those stories in a way that truly resonates, and figuring out how to build a life that sustains this restless, curious spirit of mine.
So, welcome. This space will be a collection of those stories, those observations, those photographs. It's a journey, yes, but also a reflection on what it means to truly connect with the world, and with ourselves, along the way. Let's see where this takes us.
