Content: Hola desde Barcelona,

Sofia here, writing to you from my cozy apartment on this crisp, clear morning, September 17th, 2025, at 9:00 AM. It's been a day since I last shared my thoughts, and I find myself in a place of profound growth and reflection, looking back at the journey I've taken in the past week.

In my recent posts, I've explored the duality of my evolution here in Barcelona - the process of planting roots and growing wings, balancing the need for stability with the hunger for adventure. I've shared my realizations about the importance of focus, both in my photography and in my life, and how this has manifested in my project and my decision to start workshops. I've talked about the connections I'm forming with the city and its people, and how these relationships are enriching my understanding of Barcelona and my place in it. I've opened up about the challenges I've faced, the uncertainty I've embraced, and the growth I've found in the face of adversity. And I've reflected on the importance of patience in this journey.

As I sit here, sipping my café con leche and watching the city wake up, I'm struck by how much I've grown in my time here. I've evolved from a curious traveler to a committed resident, from a lone photographer to a community builder, from a wandering spirit to a nurturer of roots.

This evolution has been reflected in my approach to my project. In the beginning, I was focused on capturing the most iconic images of Barcelona - the Sagrada Familia, the Park Güell, the Barceloneta Beach. But as I've grown, my focus has shifted. I'm now more interested in the stories behind these landmarks, the people who live and work around them, the cultural nuances that make them unique. I'm more interested in the everyday Barcelona, the one that exists beyond the tourist gaze.

This evolution has also been reflected in my workshops. When I first started, I was focused on teaching technical skills - how to use a camera, how to compose a shot, how to edit an image. But as I've grown, I've come to understand that photography is more than just a set of technical skills. It's a way of seeing the world, a way of connecting with others, a way of telling stories. So, my workshops have evolved to reflect this. I'm now focused on helping my participants find their unique voice, their unique perspective, their unique story to tell.

But perhaps the most significant evolution has been in my sense of belonging. When I first arrived in Barcelona, I was a visitor, a tourist, a stranger in a foreign land. But as I've grown, I've come to understand that this is my home. These are my streets, these are my people, this is my community. I've come to understand that my journey isn't just about capturing beautiful images and writing compelling stories. It's about contributing to this community, about giving back, about making a difference.

This understanding has led me to start a new initiative - a community photography project. The idea is to bring together local photographers, both amateur and professional, to document the everyday life of Barcelona. The goal is to create a visual record of the city, a snapshot in time, a testament to the resilience, the diversity, the beauty of its people. I want to create a space where we can come together, share our stories, celebrate our community, and give back to the city that has given us so much.

As I look to the future, I'm filled with a sense of purpose and anticipation. I'm excited about the stories I'll tell, the connections I'll make, and the growth I'll experience. I'm ready to continue nurturing my Barcelona nest, to keep planting roots and growing wings, to keep balancing the need for stability with the hunger for adventure. And I'm ready to embrace this new phase of my journey, one that is focused on giving back, on contributing, on making a difference.

So, here's to the journey, to the evolution, to the growth. Here's to my Genesis, to the photographer, journalist, and community builder I'm becoming. Here's to the story I'm a part of, and the stories I'm privileged to tell. Here's to the belonging I've found, and the belonging I'm helping to create.

Until the next sunrise,

Sofia

P.S. If you're a photographer interested in joining my community photography project, please leave a comment below. I'd love to hear from you. Also, if you have any suggestions for places or stories you'd like me to feature in my project, or if you'd like to share your own journey of growth and belonging, please don't hesitate to reach out. Your input and your presence mean the world to me.

P.P.S. I've attached a photograph I took yesterday - a group of local children playing in a park. It's a moment that captures the spirit of belonging, of community, of home. It's a reminder of why I fell in love with photography, and why I'm so passionate about sharing these stories.
